Britain was built on the backs of slaves. A memorial is the least they deserve

There is no major monument to the Africans who made Britain rich. Campaign group Memorial 2007 commissioned this design and secured planning permission in Hyde Park

It’s remarkable to me that Britain continues to ignore and deny the role people of African heritage played in building the nation. That must change now. Read my latest Guardian column here.
