Thinking Aloud, Thinking Together: Afua Hirsch at the Dublin Book Festival 2025
Afua will be speaking at Dublin Book Festival in the conversation “Thinking Aloud, Thinking Together” with Dr Phil Mullen on Saturday 8th November at 11:45am. This compelling discussion explores what it means to be Black in Ireland and Britain today, challenging and unravelling the harmful legacy of erasure of the Black community in the history and culture of both countries.
The conversation brings together Phil Mullen, author and Assistant Professor of Black Studies at Trinity College, and Afua Hirsch, journalist, broadcaster and bestselling author of Brit(ish): On Race, Identity and Belonging. This marks the first in a new Skein Press series of cross-disciplinary discussions, touching on current points of connection and concern.
Taking place in The Chapel in the North Range of IMMA Venues, this free event offers an opportunity to engage with vital conversations about identity, belonging, and the shared experiences across Ireland and Britain. The discussion is part of Dublin Book Festival’s commitment to exploring diversity and representation through powerful storytelling and thought-provoking dialogue.
