Afua Hirsch hosted the legal scholar and civil rights advocate Kimberlé Crenshaw, best known for coining the term intersectionality and helping to found critical race theory. The conversation was built around Crenshaw’s memoir Backtalker, tracing her journey from a childhood in Ohio through law school and into some of the most consequential legal battles of the past three decades, including the Anita Hill hearings and the rise of Black Lives Matter.

The event was held at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, London, as part of the venue’s literature and poetry programme.
