Cundill History Prize 2025

Afua serves as a jury member for the prestigious Cundill History Prize 2025, alongside chair Ada Ferrer and fellow jurors Sunil Amrith, François Furstenberg, and Francesca Trivellato. The US$75,000 Cundill History Prize is the world’s leading award for history writing, recognising books that demonstrate excellence in craft, communication and consequence.

Afua and the 2025 jury deliberated over a record number of more than 400 submissions from across the globe, with the festival culminating in the winner announcement on October 30 at the Cundill History Prize gala in Montreal.

Reflecting on her role, Afua commented: “It has never been more crucial to engage wider and diverse audiences with insights and knowledge about history. I am in awe of writers who reel us into unfamiliar eras and places through a combination of deeply grounded research and creative, immersive storytelling.”
