October marked a significant celebration of Black HERstory at Sony Music UK, curated by the Diversity committee HUE (Helping Unite Everyone). The month began with a powerful conversation featuring renowned author and broadcaster Afua Hirsch, hosted by 4th Floor Creative’s Lea Ogunlami. Afua shared her insights on the resilience, strength, and profound impact of Black women throughout history and today, highlighting the urgent need for greater representation and recognition across all sectors of society. Her talk set the tone for a month dedicated to honouring and amplifying the voices and achievements of Black women in the music industry and beyond.

Key events that followed included discussions with influential figures from the Black Music Coalition, a celebration of trailblazer Evelyn Dove with a commemorative blue plaque, and meaningful conversations about intersectionality and the power of Black women in leadership roles. Yet, it was Afua’s reflections that anchored the celebration, inspiring a renewed commitment to inclusivity and continued progress.
